Debra Ann Dumitriu founded JC Saves Retail to correct something she considered plainly wrong about the way fine goods reach the people who want them: that a piece can change hands three or four times, gaining a margin at every stop, without a single one of those hands adding anything to the object itself.

As Chief Executive she sets the standard the house buys by. Every department answers to the same rule — establish the source, record what identifies the piece, and put that record in front of the customer before they are asked to spend anything. Where a condition report includes repairs, those repairs are named. Where a bolt carries a dye item, that dye item is written down. Nothing is quietly omitted because it is inconvenient to mention.

Her working brief for the company is deliberately narrow: deal directly with manufacturers, mills, and estates; inspect everything by hand before it is listed; and price it as the trade prices it rather than as a showroom does. That discipline is what allows a small house in Chepachet to offer collectors, designers, and ateliers terms they would otherwise need a trade account and a wholesaler to reach.

Every object we sell has two lives — the one it lived before us, and the one it begins with you.

She leads the company from its Chepachet office and remains personally involved in sourcing, keeping the relationships with mills, makers, and estate agents that the business is built on. Clients with sourcing requests, trade account enquiries, or questions about a particular item are welcome to reach the counter directly.

Our story

We are a retail house built on a single idea: buy from the people who actually make the goods, and sell them onward without the chain of markups in between.

JC Saves Retail operates from Chepachet, Rhode Island, in a part of New England where furniture-making, milling, and textile work have been trades for generations. That setting is not incidental. It puts us within reach of estates, dealers, and workshops that most online retailers only ever encounter through a wholesaler's catalogue.

The company works across three departments — antiques, fabrics, and textile materials. They may look like separate businesses, but they answer the same question in three different ways: where did this come from, and is it what it claims to be? A two-hundred-year-old bureau and a bolt of Belgian linen present exactly the same problem. Find out who made it, establish what it is worth, and tell the customer the truth about both.

We buy directly from manufacturers, mills, and estate sources, then resell to the people who actually use what we sell — collectors furnishing a home, interior designers specifying for a client, upholsterers and ateliers buying working stock. Removing the wholesale tier is the whole point of the business. It is why a mill-woven damask can leave our counter at a workroom price rather than a showroom one.

Everything we list is inspected before it is catalogued, and everything we ship travels with a written record of what it is. Fabric goes out rolled, never folded. Furniture goes out blanket-wrapped and crated. Insurance is included on every order rather than sold as an extra.

No wholesale tier, no reseller chain, no showroom markup stacked on top of a showroom markup. We deal with the mill, the maker, and the estate ourselves — which is why a Lyon damask leaves our counter at a workroom price rather than a boutique one.

Case furniture, seating, tables, decorative arts, silver, and lighting, bought from estates and vetted dealers. Each piece is assessed for period, construction, and honest condition before it is catalogued, and every listing carries a written condition report — repairs included.

Fabrics

Full bolts and cut lengths bought direct from the mills — silk damask and satin, worsted suiting, upholstery velvet, handwoven tweed, and linen. Every bolt is run over the light table and checked against its mill specification, with width, weight, and dye item recorded.
